Quality psychotherapy at a reduced cost
Internships in clinical sexology at the master’s level are supervised to ensure high-quality services. They take place over a 30-week period with a professional who holds a bachelor’s degree in a mental health–related field and is completing a master’s degree in clinical sexology. Trainees in psychotherapy therefore have the experience and knowledge needed to help address the various relational, sexual, and psychological difficulties that an individual or couple may face.
We aim to make our clinic’s services more accessible to individuals and couples with low income or clients who wish to support the training of our sexologist psychotherapists. These internships not only allow our psychotherapy interns to acquire and refine their sexology skills, but also help advance research at the Department of Sexology at UQAM.

Frequently asked questions
How long does psychotherapy with an intern last?
The duration varies according to the issues: some situations can improve in a few sessions, while others require longer follow-up. On average, a course of therapy runs 15 to 25 sessions of 60 minutes each. The semester runs from September to June.
Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. All consultations are confidential and governed by the code of ethics of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ) and the Ordre professionnel des sexologues du Québec (OPSQ).
What is the price of a session?
The rate is $80 per 60-minute session. Official receipts are issued for insurance and tax purposes.
What is the frequency of therapy sessions?
The university program and the protocols for psychotherapy with an intern require that you come on a weekly basis to be accepted for services with our interns.
Do I have to be in therapy during the whole semester?
No. You are not required to stay in therapy between September and June. You can end the therapy at anytime that you want when you decide it is finished. It is highly recommended that you discuss this with our assigned intern before ending the therapeutic process
Can I start therapy at any time during the semester?
Intern’s have a total of 7 individuals and 7 couples during their semester at a time. If the spots have all been taken, you can be added to the waiting list as some therapies finish before the end of the semester and new clients can start their therapy. Typically, September and January are when there are more free availabilities to take new clients, but there might be a spot at anytime during the semester.
