Helping relationship by a sexologist
Short-term support to get through a difficult period, manage a crisis or improve your relationship skills — offered by a sexologist with an OPSQ permit.
The sexology helping relationship is a psychosocial support approach that addresses issues experienced in the present. A helping relationship approach aims to develop concrete tools to deal with everyday problems. It is generally a shorter- or medium-term work than a sex-psychotherapeutic approach.
It is possible to consult individually or as a couple. A sexologist with a bachelor’s degree in sexology and having obtained their license to practice from the Ordre Professionnel des Sexologues du Québec (OPSQ) can offer counselling services.
To practice psychotherapy, your sexologist-psychotherapist must have completed his master’s degree in sexology and have obtained a psychotherapist’s permit from the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ). Clinical training makes it possible to evaluate sexual disorders and determine their causes as well as the means to treat the difficulties. Generally, psychotherapy requires a more regular follow-up (every week or 2 weeks) while the helping relationship can be more punctual. Sex-psychotherapy will explore the nature of your personality and the relational and sexual issues through a clinical approach. Psychotherapy can take between 10 and 20 sessions, or even more in some cases.
The helping relationship is support focused on the present and concrete needs, while psychotherapy explores the root causes of difficulties and promotes long-term changes
Only sexologists with a bachelor’s degree and a permit to practice from the Ordre professionnel des sexologues du Québec (OPSQ) can offer this service.
For counselling. For sexological psychotherapy: $115, $120 or $140 depending on the professional
