Introduction to concepts and interventions in couple therapy.
In couples therapy, communication difficulties between partners are often addressed. However, intolerance of difference, emotional fusion and conflict management are the underlying sources to be worked on, rather than the only way to communicate. By taking into account the mind-mapping that couples install in their dynamics, we can more quickly grasp the needs and desires of each one.
For a long time, it was believed that by working on relationships and communication, sexuality would improve itself. Yet, sexuality and relational dynamics are interdependent: one influences the other, but one does not necessarily repair the other. This training helps you to integrate a global approach and to combine relationship therapy and sex therapy.
For health professionals (psychologists, marriage and family therapists, sexologists and/or psychotherapists) offering psychotherapy or counselling to couples struggling with a difficulty related to sexual desire. You will explore in depth the dynamics that even therapists sometimes prefer to avoid, with concrete ways to analyze and improve the dynamics of the couple. Neuroscience and brain plasticity are discussed to explain the clinical foundations of the approach.
A sexologist since 2010 and a psychotherapist since 2012, François trained in David Schnarch’s Sexual Crucible Therapy (SCT) and Crucible Neurobiological Therapy (CNT) approach. Supervisor in interactional systems and director of his sexology and psychotherapy clinic in Montreal since 2017, he is known for his frankness and dynamism in addressing the thorny subjects of couple dynamics.
