The couples&#8217; silent dilemma <\/strong><\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"378\" data-end=\"653\">In all couples, there is that moment when everything changes.<br data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"437\"\/>A remark, a tone of voice, a badly digested memory&#8230; And suddenly, the complicity crumbles.<br data-start=\"527\" data-end=\"530\"\/>What was supposed to be a great night becomes a debate about <em data-start=\"587\" data-end=\"601\">who&#8217;s right<\/em> \u2014 an emotional duel where no one really wins.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"732\">As a <a href=\"https:\/\/lesexologue.ca\/en\/\">sexologist<\/a> and psychotherapist, we often hear this sentence:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"733\" data-end=\"800\">\n<p data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"800\">&#8220;We just wanted to have a nice evening, but everything got out of hand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"1018\">Behind these banal scenes lies a profound dilemma: <strong data-start=\"860\" data-end=\"941\">should we protect our personal integrity or preserve the link with the other?<\/strong><br data-start=\"941\" data-end=\"944\"\/>And how do we know if our firmness is a sign of strength&#8230; or fragility?<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1023\">\n<h2 data-start=\"1025\" data-end=\"1090\"><strong data-start=\"1028\" data-end=\"1090\">Why wanting to be right becomes a relationship trap<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1290\">Wanting to be right is a human and natural reflex.<br data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1152\"\/>It&#8217;s not (just) a question of ego \u2014 it&#8217;s a way of defending one&#8217;s vision of the world, one&#8217;s feelings and one&#8217;s need to be understood.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1502\">But in the life of a couple, this reflex can become a trap.<br data-start=\"1353\" data-end=\"1356\"\/>Each partner wants to be recognized in his or her truth. However, when two truths confront each other, the relationship becomes an emotional battlefield: <\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1655\">\n<li data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1557\">\n<p data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1557\">We talk to each other to convince, not to understand.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1558\" data-end=\"1608\">\n<p data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1608\">We listen to respond, not to welcome.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1655\">\n<p data-start=\"1611\" data-end=\"1655\">We are looking to <em data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1632\">win<\/em> rather than <em data-start=\"1645\" data-end=\"1654\">to repair<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1786\">The result?
